Karen Coshow, N.D.

Karen Coshow, ND

I am a Naturopathic Physician providing primary and specialty care to patients at Wedgwood Center for Natural Medicine. My education includes a BA from the University of Washington and a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND), received from National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. NCNM is the oldest continuously-operating Naturopathic College in North America. I received my ND and became licensed in 1997 and have been in practice in Mercer Island and Seattle since then.

Services Provided

As a Naturopathic Physician, I provide primary and specialty care services for patients of all ages. I am pleased to provide an alternative to "five minute office visits" and the frustrating bureaucracy of many large clinics. Your time is valuable, so I schedule appointments in such a way as to be nearly always on time. I strive to answer all phone messages and relay all lab results and other information in a very timely manner. My patients can reach me personally 24 hours a day, seven days a week by pager or email with urgent medical problems. Routine physical exams, screening blood tests, specialist referrals, chronic disease management, Pap smears, vaccinations, school and sports physicals are a few of the primary care services I offer. I also work to coordinate specialist care so that each patient gets the continuity of care that will most efficiently utilize the health care system and ensure the best care.

I also consult as a specialist in Naturopathic Medicine for patients who are already working happily with a primary care provider. My areas of special interest, besides preventive medicine, include acute illnesses and injuries like influenza, stomach problems, sprains and strains, lacerations and infections; chronic illnesses and symptoms like fatigue, autoimmune conditions, digestive problems, anxiety, depression, thyroid disease, diabetes, PMS, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol problems and allergies. I also work with patients who are experiencing hormonal changes such as menopause and andropause. The treatment modalities I use most include lifestyle counseling, flower essence therapy, nutritional medicine, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and homeopathy.

Insurance

Many health insurance companies provide coverage for licensed Naturopathic Physicians, and I am a preferred provider with most of the health insurance companies including Regence, Premera, Uniform, Aetna, and Cigna. Please check with your insurance company to be sure you have Naturopathic benefits, and whether you require a referral. I am not a provider with United Healthcare, and Medicare does not cover Naturopathic Physicians. Uninsured patients who pay at the time of service receive a 40% discount. If you do not have the resources to pay, please ask about "scholarship" services.
